Spice Short Knees

A Touch of Spice, the cultural aspect of the Grenada_Atlanta Association will be participating in the Atlanta Caribbean Carnival- with ‘Spice Short Knee, under the band leadership of Mr. Cuthbert James.

A Touch of Spice cultural performing group from the Caribbean Island of Grenada first started performing in the Atlanta area in 1997. The members of A Touch of Spice are Grenadian nationals and their families. The group is comprised of 15 members representing the Tri islands of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. All of the members currently reside in the Metro Atlanta area.
As of May 2004, A Touch of Spice-Grenada-Atlanta Association was incorporated in the state of Georgia.

The mission of the Grenada_Atlanta Association is to share our culture and resources to unify our Grenadian community in Atlanta and help to improve the lives of others in our native land.

OUR GOALS

  • Our Goals are to continue with our Cultural group promoting Grenadian culture in the region, through folk songs, folk drama, and dance.  
  • To help provide food, medical, and school supplies to needy families here and in Grenada.
  • To be an active association providing information on Caribbean food, music, art, dance, people, places and things.

Spice Short Knee - 2008 is the first time Grenada will be on the Carnival route in Atlanta.


ThunderbirdsUSA is a Multi-National Group formed in 2004 by a diverse group of individuals from the U.S , Barbados, Dominica, Haiti, St. Kitts, Jamaica,Trinidad & Tobago and the Virgin Islands just to mention a few. Our main objective is to keep our culture alive by being a part of the Atlanta's Caribbean Carnival where we showcase our costumes. ThunderbirdsUSA maintains an active Mas Camp in Riverdale, Georgia where all of it's costumes are made. ThunderbirdsUSA prides itself in the mentoring of the children, teaching them how costumes are made and the history of carnival. The children look forward to playing mas every year. Our motto, " For the Love of the Culture."

We Kinda Ting Inc. was formed in 2004 in Atlanta by a dynamic group of individuals from various Caribbean islands. Lead by Band Leader Sharon Ali from Trinidad & Tobago, the band has grown to be one of the largest bands in Atlanta Carnival. In 2007, the Band won 1st place Band of the Year, Best Queen and Best Individual. In 2006, the Band won 3rd place for Band of the Year and 3rd Place for Children’s Carnival.

Their goal is to promote Caribbean culture and art forms through educational programs, community service, and visual arts performances. The group represent the diversity of the region with its members from Trinidad & Tobago, St. Vincent, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Martinique, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the United States.

We Kinda Ting Inc. promotes the rich cultural heritage of the Caribbean by demonstrating the unique craft of costume making for festivals and workshops. The workshops primarily focus on working with children that might not otherwise be exposed to the culture of the Caribbean region. The group has also held several workshops at its headquarters in Atlanta, GA on design and construction of costumes, theme and color selection, coordinating resources and supplies, decoration and adornment, sewing skills, and fancy wire bending.
